Message There are some 2 stage rust prevention methods. For example "Tectyl 558 AMC" is first used to form an wax film to prevent moisture to make contact with car body. On top of that you can apply "Tectyl 120" which creates elastic film to combat mechanic wear from sand etc (this protects Tectyl 558 AMC film).

My Z has its uderbody and cavity protection done in 3 days which is needed to clean all existing underbody protection and apply new 2 stage protection to underbody. Cavities need only wax because there is no abrasive wear present.

Basically wax film is good at moisture protection, bad at mechanical wear. Elastic film is good against mechanical wear but not so good againts moisture + salt.
